Ludhiana

 

Ludhiana is a city and a municipal corporation in Ludhiana district in the Indian state of Punjab. It is the largest city in Punjab, with an estimated population of close to half a million people. The population increases substantially during the crop harvesting season due to an influx of labourers from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi. It has an area of about 310 km². The city is a major industrial centre of northern India. Ludhiana is the richest district in the state of Punjab, and includes the most expensive fertile land in India. Ludhiana district is one of the NRI hubs of India.

 

How to Get There:
By Air: Ludhiana does not have an airfield.
By Rail: Frequent train services between Delhi northwards towards Amritsar, Jammu and Pathankot pass through Ludhiana.
By Road: Ludhiana is centrally located on the National Highway 1 from Delhi to Amritsar, and is well connected to the Indian capital city of New Delhi by road. Night Deluxe buses from Delhi are the common option, but morning superfast trains are bridging the gap.
Getting Around: The best way to get around is on foot. Take autos to prominent points and then wander around.
Where to Stay: There are many available hotels in Ludhiana. All Ludhiana hotels can be booked online. Better hotels are Majestic Park Plaza, City Heart Sarovar Portico, Country Inn and Suites Ludhiana and City Heart Sarovar Portico.

What to See: Ludhiana was never designed as a city or tourism. You will thus come across recommended sights all of a sudden. Where to Eat: One of the best and oldest eatery is "Khushi Ram & Sons", the most popular in the state. Cuckoo's Nest serves great Italian, Lebanese and Indian food. Barista and other cafes such as Cafe Coffee Day, Costa Coffee are also around nearby. Bakes and Beans is a popular eatery. McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut are easily accessible.
The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana
The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, was established in 1962 to serve the state of erstwhile Punjab. In 2006 the College of Veterinary Science was upgraded to become Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University (GADVASU) at Ludhiana. The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is located in Ludhiana city. Situated on the Ludhiana - Ferozepur Road, the University covers an area of 1510 acres on its main campus and 4615 acres at the regional research stations. The University has well equipped laboratories, library and lecture rooms and elaborate farm facilities. Hostel accommodation is available in the university hostels for single students.
The Punjab Agricultural University now has four constituent colleges, viz. College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering, College of Home science and College of Basic Sciences & Humanities. It offers 31 Master's and 30 Ph.D. programmes. The course curricula are constantly revised to keep pace with the latest developments in agriculture and allied fields.
