How to Get There:
By Air: Ranchi is the only city of Jharkhand which is connected by a daily flight to Mumbai via Delhi. Earlier flights to Kolkata have been discontinued. Some more flights are to be added soon.
By Rail:
Ranchi is very well connected by railways to other parts of the country. Direct trains connect from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Patna and other cities. Trains from Mumbai pass through Jamshedpur which is just 140 km from Ranchi.
By Road: Buses of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation ply regularly. Getting around is possible only by bus, as rail links were opposed by the local coal mining mafia who managed the truck services.
Demographics:
Jharkhand has a population of 27 million, with a 941:1,000 female to male ratio. The population includes 28% tribals and 12% Scheduled Castes. Jharkhand has 32 tribal groups, and in some of its districts, the tribal population is predominant. Hinduism is practised by the majority, at 68.5% of the population; Islam is followed by 14 % of the Jharkhandis and the Animisitic Sarna religion by 13%. Christianity with 4.1% of the population is the fourth largest religious community in Jharkhand. Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism are all in practice, though in a minority. The people of Jharkhand speak a number of regional languages, though Hindi and Bengali are both used freely. English is picking up with the advent of the Internet. |

Dassam Falls, about 40 km from Ranchi; Ranchi itself; The city of Dhanbad or the ‘Coal Capital’ of India; The city of Bokaro, famously known as the ‘steel city’ which houses the biggest steel plant of the country; Betla National Park; Hazaribagh National Park; Jawaharlal Nehru Zoological Garden in Bokaro Steel City.
